Toyota refreshes Fortuner for Thailand

Pickup-based SUV gets 4WD for 2.4 model, plus some new features and higher prices for the rest of the range.

Toyota Motor Thailand has tweaked its Fortuner model lineup with a new variant to choose from.

Previously reserved just for the 177hp 2.8-litre version, the brand’s so-called Sigma 4 selectable four-wheel-drive is now also available for the 150hp 2.4-litre variant which includes low-range gears for optimum off-roading.

The Thai Toyota office has also taken the opportunity to tweak some features in the rest of the range. A new development is rear disc brakes in place of the drum type (with the exception of the entry-level manual gearbox model). As well, eight-way electrically adjustable front seats are now standard across the range.

Some exterior changes include LED fog lamps, newly designed indicator and brake lights and side steps. Due to these new features, prices in most cases have risen by around 50,000 baht.

At 1.499 million baht, the 4WD 2.4 costs 80,000 baht more than the 2WD 2.4 but is 150,000 baht cheaper than the 4WD 2.8.

Apart from these two diesel-powered Fortuners, there’s the usual 166hp 2.7-litre petrol model with 2WD to choose from. As well, dressed-up versions in the guise of TRD 2.8 are still available in the range.
