PM visiting Australia

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra left Bangkok on Saturday morning for Sydney to start a four-day official visit to Australia.

It was the first official visit involving a leader from Thailand or Australia in eight years, the premier said on her "Yingluck Government Meets the People" weekly talk show on NBT, recorded earlier.Ms Yingluck said she would join celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relationships between Australia and Thailand. The visit is also intended to restore confidence in the Thai economy among Australian investors and strengthen trade and investment links between the two countries.Top business executives joining the premier on the trip include representatives from the Federation of Thai Industries, the Thai Chamber of Commerce, PTT, Loxley, Charoen Pokphan Group, Surapol Food, and Central Group.

It's the way all State visits are conducted; all about business while the Country Leader goes along for the ride and and a camera opportunity.

Perhaps she will see how a real democratic economy works, even with an ordinary govt run by a lady prime minister under pressure, the economic foundations still remain, corruption is minimal, worker and driver safety standards are high etc etc;. Go to "thainatown" in Sydney where many thai people live very well either settling in Australia or sending good money back to their families. Not a perfect country by any means but one where lessons can be learnt to run an efficient, tolerant and peaceful country...

Maybe Yingluck would care to see some of the land and houses Thais have purchased whilst there... It just might demonstrate how ridiculous the law that prevents Australians from doing the same here is.

I hope she got a Visa before she left..... Seriously, these companies probably find it easy to invest in Australia as the Australian Labor Party has made it so easy. Also easy to buy some land while she there as no restriction on that either. She can set up a Thai company and grow rice to ship back here with no restrictions. Australia. Come one, come all.

They don't speak Thai in Australia. Will Thaksins sister just show pictures?

What with all the scams, corruption and harm that's been perpetrated on Australians and other farangs who've come here, I believe a personal apology would be more appropriate and in keeping with the current situation.

I've lived here for ten plus years, know how Thais think and operate and therefore warn Australia. ... Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.

I hope her visit produces some good for the people of both countries (and perhaps a more rational alcohol pricing policy? - why is strong spirit cheaper than ordinary Australian wine?)

She has found her niche, two trips per month to anywhere
