NBTC to add local offices

Mr Takorn says the existing number of provincial offices is insufficient.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) plans to almost double the number of its provincial offices by 2018 in order to handle larger-scale, sophisticated regulatory issues surrounding the telecom and broadcasting industries.

The move is intended to increase the NBTC's efficiency in monitoring the quality of telecom and broadcast services in the provinces, protect consumer rights and resolve complaints faster.

NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tantasith wants to increase the number of provincial offices from 14 at present to 25 by 2018 as part of the commission's efforts to restructure its organisational and management structure.
