5 Asian airports in world's top 10

Five Asian airports are on a list of the world's top 10 airports for 2017, with Singapore's Changi Airport retaining number one spot for the fifth consecutive year, according to rankings released by airline consultancy Skytrax.

Thailand's Suvarnabhumi Airport dropped two notches to 38th, from 36 in the previous ranking.

The second place went to Tokyo International Airport (Haneda), commonly known as Tokyo Haneda Airport, which improved from fourth in 2016, while Incheon International Airport of South Korea dropped from second to third.

Hong Kong International Airport maintains its fifth rank standing, while Chubu Centrair Nagoya in Japan dropped one place to seventh.

Ranked fourth is Munich Airport in Germany, which dropped from third in 2016.

Hamad International Airport in Qatar  moved up four places to sixth.

Three European airports fill the ranks from eighth to tenth -- Zurich Airport in Switzerland, Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom and Frankfurt Airport in Germany.

The World Airport Awards, said to be the Oscars of the aviation industry, are voted on by customers in the largest, annual global airport customer satisfaction survey. See full list here.

The 2017 Awards are based on 13.82 million airport survey questionnaires. The survey was from July 2016 to February 2017, covering 550 airports worldwide

The survey evaluates customer satisfaction across key performance indicators such as check-in, arrivals, transfers and shopping facilities.
