Emergency law extended in South

The cabinet on Tuesday approved the extension of the emergency decree in three southern border provinces for another three months, caretaker deputy defence minister Yuthasak Sasiprapa said.

The executive decree on public administration in emergency situations in the deep South will be extended from Dec 20 to March 19, 2014, he said.

The administration in emergency situations committee proposed earlier this month that the emergency decree imposed in Yala’s Kabang district be lifted and the Internal Security Act be imposed there instead, since the area is considered "safe" from insurgency. Gen Yuthasak said the matter was not tabled for consideration at today’s cabinet meeting.
