Thaksin tells family, keep low profile

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has advised all members of the Shinawatra family to keep a "low profile" in politics.

Gen Chaisit Shinawatra said on Wednesday that his cousin made the suggestion in a phone call a few days ago.

His advice was reflected in the Pheu Thai Party’s decision to field only his sister Yingluck and brother-in-law Somchai Wongsawat on its party-list for the Feb 2 election.

Gen Chaisit warned protesters not to push Shinawatra family members into a corner by pressuring them to leave the country.

He hoped that army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha would use his connections with protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban to break the political deadlock.

The former army chief and supreme commander, who turned 69 on Wednesday, termed the protests a ''quiet coup'', pointing out that police and soldiers had made no effort to end the month-long rally.

Thaksin has been keeping a low profile since the demonstrations began in late October.

Almost sounds like a shot across the bow. Wonder what they have up their sleeve?

The sin and the hardship that Thaksin inflicted on the Thai people will never be forgotten.

would that happen to have anything to do with the disappearence of jim thompson?
Discussion 4 : 25/12/2013 at 05:57 PM
exactly. That's why the members of this Shinawatra clan all have the highest ranking places on the PT-list starting with the novice who looks more his daughter than his younger sister. Low profile??? My a$$!

"The former army chief and supreme commander, who turned 69 on Wednesday, termed the protests a ''quiet coup'', pointing out that police and soldiers made no effort to end the month-long rally." He is right.

No problem. I don't know if there is anybody in Thailand has a lower profile than YS. In Dubai, ok ...

The mere fact that he called his cousin to issue this announcement is more blatant and very public interference. Thaksin does not get it , his time is up.

yeah old Thak needs to keep his head down too.

When one family threatens the people, it just shows how much power this family has accumulated over the years.

His advice was reflected in the Pheu Thai Party’s decision to field only his sister Yingluck and brother-in-law Somchai Wongsawat on its party-list for the Feb 2 election. That suppose to mean that if He doesn't advise them to keep low profile,They would have fielded the whole family in the party list. This sound disgusting. keeping low profile should have meant,no Shinawatra family in the line up.Am I dreaming

Number 1 and 2 of the Pheu Thai list for the elections are family members of the Thaksin clan. Is THAT low profile? Am i getting crazy or Thaksin?
Discussion 12 : 25/12/2013 at 04:08 PM
Look at the party list ........... low profile 555 Just getting ready to run the country again from Dubai Then push for his personal amnesty Shinawatra and low profile 5555
Discussion 13 : 25/12/2013 at 04:06 PM
How would the Pheu Thai party list have looked if the concerned Shinawatra's were not keeping a low profile? There are good family members, and I am most sorry for the demise of T. Shinawatra Thai Silk. Perhaps someone could ask why the main Shinawatra family moved the family home from Chiang Mai to Bangkok (Soi Prasarnmit).... and which family members were not welcome in the home and why ...

Thaksin would tell his family to shop at JJ's if he thought he could see his name in print
Discussion 15 : 25/12/2013 at 04:05 PM
So by keeping a "low profile," two of them are atop the candidate list for the upcoming sham "elections."
Discussion 16 : 25/12/2013 at 03:58 PM
So this is Thaksin's idea of keeping a low profile in politics: By ONLY putting his sister and his brother-in-law into the top spots for the next election? Looks more like a brazen provocation to me.
Discussion 17 : 25/12/2013 at 03:58 PM
For sure, Thaksin the cause of all this mess is keeping a low profile. When will be the next time he will push his amnesty bill?
Discussion 18 : 25/12/2013 at 03:56 PM
The lull before the storm
Discussion 19 : 25/12/2013 at 03:52 PM

The Shin clan will face whistles and jeers for the rest of their lives. Hope they feel it was worth it.
