Constituency registration from Dec 28

The registration of candidates running in constituencies for the Feb 2 election will be held as scheduled, beginning tomorrow and closing on Jan 1, Election Commission secretary-general Puchong Nutrawong said on Friday.

Mr Puchong said the EC had sent a letter to the chairs of the election committees of all provinces confirming that registration of candidates in the constituency system would be held as scheduled, despite yesterday's chaos at the Thai-Japanese sports complex in Bangkok.

If there were problems - such as an election unit being under siege, polling officials obstructed from work or intimidated - making it impossible for voting to safely go ahead, the chief of each constituency committee is empowered to make a decision on whether to proceed and to report to the chairman of the provincial election committee, he said.

All incidents must be reported to police for the record, Mr Puchong said.

Isn't it embarrassing to make a U turn. My advice to the EC is, complete your authorized task of seeing that the upcoming election is free and fair
