Smuggled goods found in truck

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT - Police on Sunday seized a truck carrying smuggled goods, including food, worth about 2 million baht as it was heading to Bangkok.

Officers stopped the  north-bound truck for inspection  at a checkpoint in Tham Phannara district set up to monitor driving on Asia Highway No 41 during the New Year holiday.

The driver, identified as Uaichai Thippharong, 27, allegedly told police he was hired by a woman in Songkhla's Hat Yai district to deliver the goods, which include food, to customers in Bangkok.

The man said he had done the job many times before, and was paid 8,000 baht for each trip.

The goods were believed to have been smuggled in from Malaysia.
