The first Air New Zealand Boeing 787-9 is scheduled to arrive in Auckland on Saturday, before flying to Alice Springs in Australia's Northern Territory, the Australian Business Traveller website reported.

Maximum temperatures in Alice Springs this week have been above 40 degrees celcius.

Boeing said in a statement that the 787-9, a stretched version of the 787-8, was being put ``through its paces in an array of real-world conditions.''
