Chula Uni to close Jan 13-15

Chulalongkorn University has announced it will suspend classes at its Bangkok campus on Jan 13, 14 and 15 because of the planned Bangkok shutdown by the People's Democratic Reform Committee.

The announcement was made on the university's website www.chula.ac.th. It said the decision was reached at a meeting of the deans of all faculties.

University personnel who cannot travel to the campus to work as usual can notify their superiors and their days off will not be recorded as leave days.

The PDRC is getting its way. Large numbers of educational institutions across Bangkok will be closed. How this will benefit the country is beyond reason. I would hope the faculty and students at Chulalongkorn University would be working on ways to heal the nation rather than shutting down.

I teach there. There's no hidden agenda. For one thing, it's no secret that the vast majority of faculty and students are anti-govt. But, they're closing simply because access to the university will be disrupted, many students will not be able to reach their classes, which will result in low attendance. Classes can't be taught if a significant number of students are absent.

Closing the university is like sending the students in the street and may be the opposite effect of what they were looking to avoid excepted if they were their hidden agendas.
