Six men beat up tourist in Pattaya

CHON BURI - A Maltese man was badly beaten in Pattaya after he quarreled with a motorcycle taxi driver who then brought his friends into the fray.

According to a report by Pattaya Today, Michael Gassar, 48, and his Thai girlfriend had bought jewellery and had some drinks before taking a motorbike taxi to an auto teller machine (ATM).

When the cash machine snatched his card and refused to dispense his card or any cash, Mr Gassar became angry and repeatedly kicked the machine.

The taxi driver tried to restrain the foreigner to no avail.

The Thai man reportedly called upon six friends who readily attacked Mr Gassar — beating him with a metal rod and a beer bottle. Neither the victim nor his girlfriend could identify the assailants.

The Maltese is in hospital recovering from his injuries.

There are many issues here. First when does a motor bike taxi driver become law enforcement officer ? He should have called the police this is not his place. The Second issue 6 to 1 sounds like over kill to me or an excuse to beat a farang up !! Mess with the wrong tourist who has been in an dangerous environment and has training ( many who visit here have that), and the article might be written differently. The title could have read " Tourist defends self killing 3-4 Thais in self defense". Using a metal rod, and beer bottle is life threatening. To the 6 men who want to fight maybe you should go down South and protect teachers !!!

Seriously this was an assault of an individual by a group of thugs. Why don't the motortaxi driver call the police to look assist or apprehend the man rather than taking the law onto their hands
