PT nominee lays charge against Dems

Pheu Thai Party list candidate Ruangkrai Leekijwattana has filed a complaint with the Election Commission seeking the dissolution of the Democrat Party for urging people not to vote Pheu Thai in postings on the party's website.

Mr Ruangkrai said that the Democrat Party had posted eight articles on its website asking eligible voters not to vote for the Pheu Thai Party between Dec 26 and Jan 20.

Two of the articles involved Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and six involved party spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut, he said.

He said a post on Jan 17 accused Pheu Thai of buying votes while another on Jan 20 accused Pheu Thai politicians of corruption and said the Feb 2 election was intended to whitewash caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

Mr Ruangkrai argued that the Democrat executive committee was probably involved in the posts since they appeared shortly after the part's general assembly at the end of last year.

This could violate of the Political Party Act and election law, he said.

In Thailand it's against the election law to urge voters not to vote, to attack you opponents or to accuse them of acts that have not been proven in court during an election campaign and the law covers both those running in the election and those that are not.

Political parties all over the world tell voters not to vote for the opposition Besides telling voters that they can always vote for an entirely different party

So, now it's illegal for the opposition party to urge people not to vote for the ruling party? And Pheu Thai is the defender of 'democracy'? What a joke.
