Couple caught with fake US dollars

A Thai woman and a Malaysian man were arrested in Ekamai in Bangkok for allegedly possessing counterfeit American 100 dollar banknotes.

Thai woman Natasha Shukri, 44, and Malaysian national Zainubin bin Shukri, 53, were caught outside an office building in Soi Sukhumvit 63 at 8pm Wednesday after police found 51 fake US banknotes, each worth about 3,300 baht, in their possession.

Warawut Taweechaikarn, commander of the Investigation Division of the Immigration Bureau, said on Thursday a group of immigration police officers were patrolling the area and observed the suspects acting suspiciously and asked to search them.

A banknote expert from Kasikorn Bank and an official from the United States embassy, who were invited to inspect the confiscated US greenbacks, confirmed the notes were forged.

The suspects were charged with possession of counterfeit money with intent to distribute, Pol Maj Gen Warawut said.

US currency design needs to be updated. Different colours for each denomination would also be good instead of being all green.

Immigration police officers were patrolling the area? There's something a little sinister about that. Do immigration officers patrol any other city in the world, I wonder, looking for people to challenge?

These catches are so ubiquitous. How about a big news on: A couple caught with fake Rice Scheme in Thailand? One mastermind living abroad, and one of his collaborator living here.
