Parents, children die in Din Daeng fire

Four people died and four others were injured when a fire swept through four shophouses in Din Daeng area early on Thursday morning, according to media reports.

The fire started around 4.30am at a shophouse in soi Pracha Songkhroh 2 which sells boiled rice while the owners were asleep on the upper floor. Fire fighters called to the blaze took about 40 minutes to bring it under control.  By then four  shophouses had been damaged.

In the food shop, which occupies two connected houses, police found the bodies of four people on the second floor. They were identified as Surasak Chatmongkol, Tiew Chatmongkol and seven-year old Panida Chatmongkol and three-year old Pongthep Chatmongkol.

Another four injured people were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Police said there were normally four family members living on the premises. Four other people were visiting for the Chinese New Year.

The police will investigate the cause of fire.
