Police in Petchabun have seized 1.2 million methamphetamine pills, while officers in Chiang Rai intercepted 2.3 million baht in cash due to be delivered to a drug trafficking ring.

Pol Maj Gen Surapol Thuanthong, commander of the Narcotic Suppression Bureau, said at a press briefing on Monday that police in Petchabun's Muang district had arrested 24-year-old Chiang Mai resident Suwit Saengpaiboon after finding 1.2 million yaba pills hidden in fertilizer bags in his pickup truck. The arrest was made on Saturday after police received a tip-off.

The suspect allegedly told police that the drugs had been smuggled from Laos and that he had been paid 100,000 baht to deliver them to a client in Ayutthaya.

In a separate case, police in Chiang Rai arrested Pimai Wiangbanpat, 42, and Apiwut Wiangbanpat, 32, who were found with 2.39 million baht in cash in their pickup truck on Sunday.

The siblings allegedly confessed that the money was going to be delivered to drug traffickers in tambon Sansalee in Chiang Rai's Wiang Pa Pao district.
