Man crushed after truck sheds its load

PATHUM THANI ― A man has died after a container of wood fell off the back of a truck on a fly-over and down to the road below, crushing his passenger van.

The accident occurred on Phahon Yothin Road in Thanyaburi district, near a Ban Na passenger van queue opposite Future Park Rangsit shopping mall at about 4pm on Monday.

A worker at the van queue who witnessed the horrific accident said she saw the truck collide with the railings of the Rangsit fly-over. Its shipping container then slid off the truck's trailer and fell, flattening the white passenger van on the road underneath.

Rescuers had to use hydraulic rescue tools to free the body of the van driver, Nattapong Tabthongmark, 19, said Pol Lt Theeradej Sangsingkaew of Pratunam Chulalongkorn police station.

The trailer was found parked on an exit ramp, about 50 metres away from the flattened van.

Ronnachai Kidsom, 33, the truck's driver, told police he failed to negotiate a curve on the fly-over and decided to swerve right from the railing to avoid crashing off the bridge, causing his load to drop onto the road below.

Police would conduct drug tests on the man and press charges against him, Pol Lt Theeradej said.

seems to me, any police worthwhile, could determine, if it was excessive speed, then go after the big fish, the company in charge....... ; in todays mobile camera world, it should not be so hard to throw the hit and run drivers in for double time, there is also manslaughter 1st , 2nd degree ....

What a shame you had to bring politics into even this story . . . . .

I would say that if you check 100 trucks, 75 of them will not have anything securing the container to the trailer bed. The ones that do would not hold up to much torque either. A few weeks ago is saw a semi trailer carrying about 20 Cement telephone poles. They were not secured with anything. No ropes, no chains, just using their own weight to keep them in place.

He didn't run! The first honest Thai truck driver in history. He should be given a fine and released. Catch the "runners" and put them in jail for life. I respect this driver for his honesty and accountability for his actions. So rare in the PTP now days.

Driver says " he failed to negotiate a curve" so took evasive action...............And some dickhead put this waste of space in charge of a 40ft container truck. Will they ever learn ?
