Fire engines from Phop Phra district rushed to the scene but it took them over an hour to put out the fire.
About 100,000 refugees residing in the camp fled for safety. About 20 shelters were burnt down. Twenty-four other shelters were dismantled to prevent the fire from spreading. Nobody was hurt.
An initial investigation suggests the blaze fire might have been started by a five-year-old Kareni boy playing with fire in his shelter, which was made of leaves.
