SilkAir in transition to all-Boeing

Singapore Airlines' regional airline, SilkAir, Tuesday received its first delivery of a Boeing 737-800 jet, marking the start of the company's transition to an all-Boeing fleet.

The 737 will make its debut at the Singapore Airshow in a week's time. It will then enter service later in the month, the company said.

The airline will receive a further 53 Boeing jets for its fleet, which currently comprises 16 Airbus A320-200s and 6 Airbus A319-100s.

"The transition to an all-Boeing fleet will enable us to efficiently serve more destinations, fly longer routes and increase capacity on existing routes," said SilkAir Chief Executive Leslie Thng.
