Hotel cleaner returns lost B200,000

A hotel cleaner has been praised after handing in more than 200,000 baht that had been left behind by a foreign guest.

Pornthipa Chuanchailuak, 40, discovered the money in a black wallet left in a room at the Louis’ Tavern Transit Hotel at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 5am on Jan 4.

Mrs Pornthipa said she alerted a hotel receptionist and handed in the wallet after making the discovery. They checked it and found 210,000 baht inside, belonging to Belgian tourist Guy Josephina Domien Steurs, who had left the hotel around three hours earlier and flown back to his home country.

Mrs Pornthipa - originally from Kalasin - is employed by hotel cleaning company Master Mind Consultant Co and has been working at the Louis' Tavern at the airport for nine months.

Master Mind executive Annakapon Ingkhagun said his company obtained Mr Steurs' email address from the airline that he travelled to Thailand with. The man later asked his Thai wife Wilai Chairat to collect the money on his behalf.

A handover ceremony for the money was held on Monday on the third floor of the airport’s passenger terminal. Mrs Wilai gave Mrs Pornthipa 20,000 baht to thank for her honesty, Mr Annakapon said.

The hotel cleaner also received a trophy and certificate from her company and Suvarnabhumi Airport in honour of her good deed.

Can you not find it in yourself,to praise the honesty of this lady, other than to turn it into your own beliefs.

the tourist was lucky it wasn't the fugitive or one of his corrupt cronies finding the money.

She did her job. If she kept the money, she would be running from the police for the rest of her life!

Wonderful piece of news. This cleaning woman is probably making minimum wage at best That represents 2 years pay for her. There is still hope for Thailand!
