Senate election set for March 30

The cabinet on Tuesday approved in principle a draft royal decree for the election of senators on March 30, deputy government spokeswoman Sunisa Lertpakawat said.

The registration of candidates has been scheduled for March 4-8.

The government will forward the draft royal decree for His Majesty the King's endorsement.

It was expected the royal decree would be published in the Royal Gazette by March 2, she said.

There are 150 seats in the Senate, with a senator elected from each province plus the metropolitan district of Bangkok, and the rest appointed.

Senators serve six-year terms.
