Army sends medics to help protesters

The army has sent medical staff to aid anti-government protesters who injured in Tuesday's clash with riot police at Phan Fah Bridge, the commander of the 1st Division King's Guard said on Tuesday.

Maj Gen Wara Wara Bunyasit said military medical personnel, corpsmen and medical volunteers had been sent to help injured civilians on the instructions of Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, the army chief.

He said five companies of soldiers had also been deployed around Government House and anti-government rally sites to closely monitor the situation and prevent violence.

He called on the public to understand that the army cannot do anything more to help civilian protesters because it is under the command of the caretaker government's Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO), which is overseen by caretaker Labour Minister Chalerm Yubamrung.
