Militant slain in Yala clash

A militant was shot dead in a clash with border patrol police in Raman district, Yala province early Friday morning.

Border patrol police from Special Force 44 raided house No 30 in Ban Lee Seng, tambon Chakua about  3.30am, after receiving a tip-off that a militant was hiding there.

On seeing the police, a man ran out of the house and fired at them with a handgun. Police fired back and shot the man dead. An 11mm pistol was found near the body.

He was later identified as Marorda Masila, 37, a resident of the house targeted in the raid. He was wanted by Chakua police station on two arrest warrants for charges of attempted murder and violating emergency law.
