Talks have been held with experts from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, according to a Vientiane Times report.
A 65-hectare (406.3-rai) plot in Nongkhone village was selected by the committee for the feasibility study.
The village is about 6km west of National Road No. 13. It is located on a small road linking the national road at km54 with Sangthong district's capital town of Phialath, the report said.
The park would create a number of jobs for local residents, the majority of whom currently rely on agriculture.
The idea of building industrial parks has been raised alongside plans to develop the new provincial capital town into a modern city with economic growth in the province expected to reach 10.6% this year.
The authorities have selected crop processing, electricity generation, mining and tourism as economic drivers in the province.
The authorities affirmed the building of any industrial zone needs to be done under the guidance of technical procedures and principles and the provincial authorities will have to be responsible for the social and environmental impact caused and ensure fair mediation and compensation for any possible loss of property by the local community, the Times reported.
