Luang Pu leads rice rally to police HQ

Luang Pu Buddha Issara on Tuesday led about 200 People's Democratic Reform Committee members and protesters from a farmers' network to the Royal Thai Police Office to lodge a petition against Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, five other caretaker ministers and two agencies in connection with failings in the rice-pledging scheme.

Luang Pu Buddha Issara said the petition accused state officials and agencies of cheating the public over the rice-pledging scheme for the 2013-2014 crop year.

The individuals mentioned in the petition are Ms Yingluck, Finance Minister Kittiratt Na Ranong, Commerce Minister Niwatthamrong Bunsongphaisan, Agriculture Minister Yukol Limlaemthong, Deputy Commerce Minister Nattawut Saikuar and Deputy Commerce Minister Yanyong Puangrach. The agencies are the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives and the Warehouse Organisation.

During a brief rally at the police headquarters, the monk spoke through loudspeakers asking police to also investigate corruption in state water management projects and the tablet computers for schools programme, and to take legal action against some media outlets for disseminating information deemed to be lese majeste.

The protesters left police HQ after their petition was accepted for consideration.
