Accident kills 2, injures 12 in Ranong

Two Myanmar workers were killed and 12 other people, including two Thais, injured in a road accident in Phato district of Ranong province on Sunday morning.

Pol Maj Somboon Kanchana, an investigator at Phato police station, said the accident occurred at 5.30am when a pickup truck overturned on Highway 4006 (Lang Suan-Phato) at kilometre marker 38.

Two Myanmar migrant workers were killed and 12 people injured. The 12 injured comprised 10 Myanmar nationals and two Thais. The two Thais were identified as Thaiwibul Kongtuk, 55, the pickup truck owner, and Thirawat Bamphenrat, 28, the driver.

Mr Thirawat said the Myanmar workers hired the vehicle to take them from Songkhla to Ranong, where they would take a boat to Myanmar. In Phato district, he lost control of the pickup truck, causing it to overturn.
