Shinawatra's SC Asset to sue PDRC

SC Asset Corporation, a property developer owned by the Shinawatra family, on Monday launched legal action against People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban and 12 other anti-government protest leaders following demonstrations outside the company's main headquarters last month.

After filing the case with the Civil Court, the company's lawyer Veerapat Srichaiya said that SC Asset wants more than 100 million baht in compensation for damage caused by the PDRC.

PDRC protests outside Shinawatra Tower III on Vibhavadee Rangsit Road cost the company business opportunities and damaged the confidence of consumers, Mr Veerapat said.

He said the court had been asked to urgently consider the case because anti-government protesters may come to rally outside the company's head office again.

However, the court declined to look into the case as a matter of urgency and will summon both sides for an official hearing on June 2.
