Couple nabbed in Roi Et drug bust

A husband and wife were arrested in Roi Et provinces with 96,000 methamphetamine pills following a car chase in the heart of the provincial capital on Tuesday, police said.

Pol Lt Gen Anuchai Lekbamrung, the Region 4 Provincial Police commissioner, said at a press conference that police gave chase to a car suspected of being used by traffickers to deliver drugs from Wan Yai district of Mukdahan province, following information provided by detectives.

Police shot out the front tyres of the car to stop it, forcing Somsri Phokwang, 49, and his wife Pornkamol, 47, to surrender.

The police found 20 packages containing 96,000 methamphetamine pills in the car.

The couple allegedly confessed they were hired by a Lao person in Mukdahan to distribute the drugs in the Northeast.

Narcotics suppression police also arrested Somsak Phokham, 30, in Kranuan district of Khon Kaen province with 8.57 grammes of crystal methamphetamine and 3,200 speed pills in his possession.

The man allegedly confessed he received the drugs  from a Lao woman trader in Mukdahan.
