Songkran greetings from US

US Secretary of State John Kerry has wished all Thais a happy Songkran and spelled out areas that the two countries will work on this year.

"On behalf of President [Barack] Obama and the American people, it is my great pleasure to extend New Years greetings to the people of Thailand," Mr Kerry said in a message dated April 11.

"I hope this Songkran provides all Thais an occasion to spend an enjoyable time with family and friends and to look forward to good luck and prosperity in the New Year."

Mr Kerry said that trade, health, security and education were issues that Washington would continue to strengthen with Thailand as the kingdom entered the traditional New Year.

"Our nations enjoy an unshakeable bond that transcends politics in either of our countries, and we look forward to working together in the New Year on important issues such as trade relations, health research, security cooperation, and educational exchange," he said in the letter posted on the website of the US embassy in Thailand.
