1 killed, 4 hurt on Tiam Ruammit Rd

A man died and four others were injured when a taxi slammed into a motorcycle waiting at an intersection before careening into a police booth on Tiam Ruammit Road on Thursday, police said.

Pol Lt Sujin Polprapapornchai, a police investigator, said Pachoen Ruangkham, 48, the motorcycle taxi driver, was killed in the crash.

One of the injured was a traffic police officer identified as Pol Sen Sgt Maj Paiboon Khirirat.

Pol Lt Sujin said the taxi driver attempted to escape following the incident but police were able to arrest him.

He said the driver appeared drowsy during the arrest but there was not indication that drugs or alcohol may have been a factor.
