Teacher test probe

The Office of the Basic Education Commission (Obec) is investigating alleged irregularities in an assistant teacher recruitment exam over the weekend.

Obec secretary-general Apichart Jeerawuth on Sunday said there were reports that three professional teachers, including a school director, sat in the exams held in Samut Songkhram and Nonthaburi provinces.

Mr Apichart said this was unusual because the school director and other two teachers are already state teachers and there was no reason for them to take an exam for the assistant teacher positions.

Obec cannot prohibit teachers from re-applying as assistant teachers, but “we have to make sure everything is transparent”, Mr Apichart said.

More than 100,000 applicants are competing to fill the 1,888 assistant teacher vacancies countrywide.
