Authorities seized a number of canned foods and medicinal drugs with Myanmar and Chinese labels during a raid on the house of Pricha Rattanasangsan in tambon Siphum in Muang district on Wednesday.
Mr Pricha allegedly admitted he has been selling the food and drugs in Chiang Mai for the past five years.
He would get the products from across the Thai-Myanmar border near Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district and Tak’s Mae Sot district. He said he was not aware his acts violated any laws.
The confiscated drugs are “extremely unsafe” as they include antibiotics and steroids which could cause long-term health problems if the wrong dosage is taken, said state pharmacist Manorom Sinthaphaachakun after an initial examination.
