Abhisit calls on Election Commission

Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and other party members arrived at the office of the Election Commission on Tuesaday morning to offer a proposal for a solution to the country's political conflict.

He was accompanied by deputy party leaders Chamni Sakdiset and Kiat Sitthi-amorn, party spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut and party registrar Pongsri Taraphum.

On their arrival at the EC office at the government offices complex at 9am, they were welcomed by EC chairman Supachai Somcharoen and four other commissioners - Somchai Srisuthiyakorn, Boonsong Noisophon, Thirawat Thirarojwit and Prawich Rattanapien.

A meeting was subsequently held on the 9th floor of the EC office.

Before the meeting Mr Supachai said the EC was ready to take Mr Abhisit's opinion for consideration.  He personally believes Mr Abhisit's move could possibly break the impasse and lead to a smooth election.

He called for all sides to stop short of mounting criticism on Mr Abhisit and to give him a chance.

The EC would ask at the meeting that the Democrat Party to contest the next elections, Mr Supachai added.
