Noppadon: Election the way out

Noppadon Pattama, a legal adviser to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and a member of Pheu Thai's party affairs committee, says Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva's proposal for resolving the country's conflict is unconstitutional and that the only legal way out of the current situation is an election.

Mr Noppadon said the proposal for the prime minister and the cabinet to resign and for the Senate to pick a neutral prime minister was unconstutional because the prime minister must be an elected MP and picked to take the position by the House of Representatives.

Moreover, Mr Abhisit's proposal is the same as that of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC). Mr Abhisit based his proposal on the PDRC's call without listening to opinions of the government, the Pheu Thai Party and United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, he added.

The only way out which does not contravene the constitution or destroy the democratic principle is for all parties to take part in an election, he said.

By doing this, Mr Abhisit would not have to take a political break, he added.

PM's Office Minister Varathep Rattanakorn voiced the same opinion as Mr Noppadon.

He said Mr Abhisit should also listen to the voice of other groups of people, not only the Democrat Party and the PDRC.
