Court arrest warrant for Jatuporn

The Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant on Jatuporn Prompan after he sought to again put off a hearing in a case in which he is a defendant and sole witness.

The warrant requires he be brought to a hearing on May 26.

The chairman of the the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) sought to again delay the hearing of a defamation case brought against him by Abhisit Vejjajiva.

The charge relates to accusations made against Mr Abhisit, who was then prime minister, by Mr Jatuporn in a speech to UDD rallies on Oct 11 and 17, 2009.

Mr Jatuporn cited the ongoing unrest as the reason for a delay saying he could be in danger because anti-government protesters had announced they would seek out cabinet ministers today. He was afraid that with his  clear opposition to the PDRC  he might be hurt.

The court said this was not the first time Mr Jatuporn had sought to reschedule the hearing and it had already warned him on Sept 9, 2013 he would be considered to be stalling if he tried it again.

The court also felt that Mr Jatuporn's excuse for not attending was not plausible.
