Riot police pulled out

Riot police deployed from 55 companies left the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order on Tuesday after Army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha dissolved Capo and took over all security operations under martial law.

It was reported that Pol Gen Worapong Chewprecha, deputy national police chief, issued an urgent order  over radio for all riot police to withdraw from premises used by Capo in the Police Club compound on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in Bangkok.

The riot police were drawn from 55 units, in Bangkok and other provinces and from border patrol police units.

The order followed the decision by Army chief Gen Prayuth, director of the Peace and Order Maintaining Command (POMC) to dissolve Capo, set up by the caretaker government to handle anti-government demonstrators. It has been ineffective.
