Three dead in Pattani violence

PATTANI: At least three people were killed and 55 others injured in a spate of bombings and gun attacks in the province’s Muang district on Saturday night, police said.

Erupting almost simultaneously about 8pm, at least 13 attacks took place at three 7-Eleven outlets, the office of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), an electricity post and a petrol station in Muang district.

The entire district was left facing a blackout following the attacks.

The sound of a gun battle was heard near the PEA office, police said.

No details of the dead and injured victims were immediately known. Security officers were able to control the situation at 8.30pm and power was later restored in some parts of the city, Col Pramote Prom-in, spokesman for the forward command of the Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc), said.

There were also two other bomb attacks in Rueso district of Narathiwat. No one has claimed responsibility.
