Pro-coup group holds counter-rally

As anti-coup protests continued in downtown Bangkok for the third day Sunday, a group of people supporting the junta gathered at Democracy Monument to demand reforms be pushed ahead before a general election.

About 200 people converged at the capital’s famous landmark in the evening to cheer on and give flowers to military officers deployed to enforce martial law orders and maintain peace in the area.

The demonstrators who called themselves “Love the Army Group” held placards with supportive messages such as “Thank you Thai soldiers” and “We support Thai military to counter corruption and terrorism”.

Another group made up of officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced they would hold a similar activity on Monday to give moral support to soldiers performing their duties on the streets, Post Today reported.

The group will meet near Phaya Thai BTS skytrain station at noon and offer food and flowers to the officers as a way of showing their support.
