Ch. Mai police boss transfer aborted

The order transferring Chiang Mai provincial police chief Krit Kittilue to an inactive post is reported to have been cancelled at the last moment.

Pol Maj Gen Krit was the ninth high-ranking police officer ordered sidelined by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) because of connections with the Thaksin Shinawatra regime.

He should have been moved to the office of the commissioner of Region 5 Provincial Police Bureau  until further notice, under the order issued late on Sunday evening.

The transfer order and the cancellation of the order were signed by Pol Lt Gen Wanchai Thanatkij, assistant police chief, who was appointed acting commissioner of Region 5.

Pol Lt Gen Wanchai also cancelled the order appointing Pol col Montri Sambunnanont, deputy commissioner of Region 5 Provincial Police Bureau, to the post of acting Chiang Mai provincial police chief due to legal problems.

Reports said 3rd Region Army commander Lt Gen Preecha Chan-ocha, a brother of army chief and coup leader Gen Prayuth, had submitted a letter to Pol Lt Gen Wanchai accusing Pol Maj Gen Krit of using his authority to assist Thaksin Shinawatra’s only son, Panthongtae, and suggesting he be removed from his position.
