Overcharging motorcycle taxis targeted

Authorities plan to take tough action on motorcycle taxis overcharging people during rush hours.

The Land Transport Department has sought cooperation from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and traffic police in monitoring motorcycle taxi riders who overcharge commuters during rush hours because they know people have no other choice to reach their destinations in time.

If caught, they will be fined not more than 5,000 baht.

Atchasatike Rattanadilok na Phuket, director general of the Land Transport Department, said officials were also looking into complaints about their parking which caused traffic jams.

Some of them reportedly park on Rama VIII, Krung Thon and Pinklao bridges to fetch commuters during rush hours.

Mr Atchasatike also urged people to report these behaviours by calling the department's 1584 hotline.
