Police transferred over gambling den

The commissioner of Provincial Police Region 6 has transferred four high-ranking officers to inactive posts after soldiers cracked down on a gambling den in Phitsanulok province on Wednesday.

They are Pol Maj Gen Chadin Prompaibul, commander of Phitsanulok Provincial Police, Pol Jam Gen Chalerm Suwannarat-osoth, commander of the Investigation Centre of Provincial Police Region 6, Pol Col Boonyarit Lohsuwan, superintendent of Phitsanulok's Amphoe Muang Police Station, and Pol Col Piti Naruekatpichai, superintendent of investigation, Phitsunulok provincial police.

They were transferred to the Provincial Police Region 6 Office, according to Pol Lt Gen Vorasak Nopsittiporn, the commissioner.

A panel was also set up to investigate whether the officers were derelict in their duties in allowing the gambling den to operate.

During the raid, the soldiers seized 200 cars and motorcycles. Their owners were told to report to the police and 99 have shown up. Of them, 14 admitted to placing bets.

The police said they had found who had opened the den and pledged to take full action soon.
