Prayuth heads new energy board

The junta has appointed the National Energy Policy Board, which will set contribution rates to the Oil Fund.

Under normal circumstances, the board is chaired by the prime minister.

It is now chaired by Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, chief of the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO).

The CMPO's economic chief and his deputy will be vice chairman and director respectively, according to its 52nd order.

Other directors are permanent secretaries of 11 ministries: defence, finance, foreign affairs, agriculture, transport, natural resources and environment, energy, commerce, interior, science and technology and industry ministries.

Chiefs of four agencies are also directors: the Council of State, the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB), Budget Bureau and Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO).

The Oil Fund promotes alternative enegy and is used to cushion impacts of world oil price volatilities.
