Suthep to undergo shoulder surgery

Suthep Thaugsuban, secretary-general of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), will undergo surgery on Tuesday to treat chronic pain in his right shoulder, caused by his right being raised high too often during the more than six months of the PDRC's anti-government protests.

During the protests, he had injections and took medicine to relieve the pain.

Accompanied by PDRC spokesman Akanat Prompan, Mr Suthep was greeted on arrival at Bangkok Hospital by Dr Prasert Prasartthong-osoth, the hospital's chief executive.

Mr Suthep spoke briefly to reporters, saying he expected to return home two days after the surgery, which would begin about 2pm on Tuesday.
