Rubbish truck takes down power poles

A garbage truck mounted the pavement and brought down four electricity poles, killing the driver, on Sri Nakarin Road on Thursday morning.

The accident occurred around 5am. A garbage truck from  Bang Kapi district ran into power poles in front of TF Group Building near Krungthep Kreetha intersection.

The four poles fell onto the road, blocking all traffic lanes.

Traffic police sealed off the intersection, causing  congestion that delayed commuters heading to inner Bangkok. It was expected repairmen would finish removing the poles around 3pm, according to media reports.

The truck driver, Sompong Anukul, 54, was killed in the accident, and a woman was injured and rushed to a hospital.

Police said an initial investigation revealed a speeding motorcycle cut in front of the truck, startling the driver who lost control of the vehicle and it ran off the road.
