'Yuyee' gets 15 years, B1.5m fine

The Criminal Court on Thursday sentenced former actor and model Chatchaya Cuesta Ramos, better known as Yuyee, to a long prison term after finding her guilty of smuggling cocaine into the country.

Yuyee, 41, also formerly known as Alisa Inthusamit, was arrested on Nov 10, 2012 at Don Mueang airport after immigration police found 251 milligrammes of cocaine in her suitcase when she arrived from Vietnam.

She was charged with illegal possession and smuggling a Type 2 narcotic drug (cocaine) into the country.

The court found her guilty as charged and sentenced her to 15 years in jail and a fine of 1.5 million baht.

A prison term of three months and fine of 2,000 baht previously handed down in a separate case was  added to the new sentence as requested by the Min Buri Court, which convicted her of smuggling protected wildlife into the country.

The ex-model was present at the court to hear the judgement and sentence.

Her lawyer had prepared two million baht cash as security to seek her release on bail pending appeal. The bail request was still being considered by the court.
