Alliance wants more projects probed

The Anti-Corruption Network Alliance on Tuesday sought a transparency investigation into three more government projects, in addition to eight projects ordered for revision by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

The three projects are the procurement of 38 aircraft worth 241 billion baht by Thai Airways International; solar rooftops for 800 communities worth 40 billion baht; and the second phase expansion of Suvarnabhumi airport.

Pramont Sutheewong, chairman of the alliance, said the public paid high attention to these projects so better transparency would benefit the whole nation. The solar rooftops in particular shouold be revised by the Federation of Thai Industries.

Two projects already under investigation belong to the State Railway of Thailand: plans to buy 115 rail cars for commercial service and 126 locomotives.

Airports of Thailand Plc projects are also under examination: the 2011-17 Suvarnabhumi airport development plan and the advance passenger processing system service procurement plan.

Also going under the microscope is the Energy Policy and Planning Office's Energy Conservation Fund.

The others are the school tablet computer project of the Education Ministry and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Ministry, TOT Plc's 3G network project and the digital-TV transition facilitation project of the ICT ministry.
