Bad weather hits Langkawi for week

Strong winds and high waves are hitting Langkawi island and other parts of Malaysia until the weekend, the Malaysian Meteorological Department said on Tuesday.

Winds at a speed up to 50 kilometres per hours and waves up to 3.5 metres high are expected to hit the island and the coasts in Perlis, Kedah and Penang states on the mainland and Sabah until Sunday, the Malaysian state news agency Bernama reported.

The weather condition is posing dangers for small boats, recreation and water sports, it added.

Langkawi is one of the most popular resort islands of Malaysia, with express boats connecting southern Thailand in Satun province.
