Large weapons cache found in Nonthaburi

Police and military officers recovered a large cache of weapons and assorted ammunition from roadside bushes in Muang district in Nonthaburi province on Saturday night.

The combined taskforce was sent to a soi leading from a bypass to Village Group 8 in tambon Bang Kraso in Muang district after police were informed by local residents that they had found two fertiliser sacks and one black bag abandoned in the bush near Por Rattana restaurant.

Recovered from the sacks were a home-made shotgun, one SKS rifle, two .22 rifles with 200 rounds of ammunition, 200 rounds of an unknown type of ammunition, 80 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, three magazines for Thompson machine-guns,100 rounds of .22LR ammunition, one gas mask, four tear gas canisters, 89 rounds of .45 ammunition and C4 charges stuffed in an extinguisher. 

Pol Col Wisutr Chatchaidet, acting chief of Region 1 Provincial Police, said the weapons and ammunition had been dumped by people afraid of being caught in possession of them.

They would be examined to find their origins, he said.
