Court extends Sombat's detention

The Bangkok Military Court on Monday approved a police request to detain Sombat Boonngamanong, leader of the Red Sunday group and founder of the Mirror Foundation, for another 12 days for further questioning.

Mr Sombat has been charged with inciting unrest, violating the Computer Crimes Act and defying the summons issued by the  National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) to report to military officials.

Mr Sombat, 47, also known as Bor Kor Lai Jud (the spotty editor) or Nu Ring, defied the NCPO's summons to report in and was arrested at a friend's house in Chon Buri’s Phan Thong district on June 5 after spending two weeks on the run.

Crime Suppression Division police took Mr Sombat from the Bangkok Remand Prison to the court on Monday morning and were granted permission to detain him for another 12 days, from June 24-July 5.
