Rise set in disabled veteran benefits

The Veterans Council on Monday resolved to increase welfare benefits for veterans who became disabled during or after military service.

Council members reviewed the welfare regulations for disabled veterans at a meeting Monday and agreed that their monthly allowance should be raised to match the rise of the cost of living and help their families, said Gen Chaiwat Satondee, director of the War Veterans Organisation (WVO).

Gen Chaiwat said monthly income support would be increased from 2,680 baht a month to 3,000 baht, and funeral expense allowance in the event of death would be raised from 7,000 to 10,000 baht.

The maximum loan offer for each disabled veteran is also adjusted from 50,000 to 70,000 baht once they put up their military pension as collateral, he added.

WVO is currently providing support for about  600,000 war veterans and their families.
