Haj direct flights from Hat Yai only

Direct chartered flights for southern Thai Muslims attending this year's Haj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia will operate from Hat Yai in Songkhla only, the secretary-general of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) said Wednesday.

Thai Airways International will arrange 10 direct flights from Hat Yai, Panu Uthairat said on Wednesday.

Special flight services from Narathiwat Airport to Jeddah — the kingdom’s second largest city and the main entry point for pilgrims visiting nearby Mecca — would be terminated because the number of passengers did not meet the target.

Mr Panu said Thailand received a quota of 10,400 people to perform the Haj this year, 8,000 of whom will be coming from five southern border provinces - Pattani, Narathiwat, Yala, Satun and Songkhla.
